Varian Equestrian’s Breeding Lab features state-of-the-art equine reproductive services through a close partnership with Veterinary Reproduction Innovations (VRI). The VRI team is led by renowned specialists Dr. Joy Altermatt, DVM, MS, DACT and Dr. Fernando Campos-Chillon, MS, DVM, PhD, DACT—a professor at Cal Poly—who serves as the team scientific advisor. Both bring exemplary credentials and years of hands-on experience in advanced equine and bovine reproduction, offering clients up-to-date expertise breeding. Their approach blends academic rigor with real-world horsemanship, ensuring every mare and stallion receives personalized, science-based care.

 

VRI’s services include a full spectrum of reproductive solutions, such as mare and stallion management, insemination, embryo transfer, and state-of-the-art procedures like equine ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) and embryo time-lapse monitoring. In addition, VRI utilizes the Varian Equestrian Center’s peaceful environment and exceptional facilities to support both horses and owners through every step of the breeding process
